Each quarterly guide includes 13 biblically accurate and thorough, age-appropriate lessons. Each lesson begins with a Focus activity to tune students' hearts to welcome God's Word. The Discover section presents the Bible story in a translation-neutral narrative with vocabulary suited to fifth and sixth grade listeners. Studies increasingly emphasize having Juniors use their Bibles to read the narrative or look up and discuss related passages. Each lesson concludes with a Respond section, inviting students to respond to the Holy Spirit in applying the lesson to their own lives. Each section also includes Enrichment Ideas - alternative approaches to reach the lesson goals in ways that appeal to a variety of learners.

The Bible Truth and the Life Response Aim for each lesson give the teacher direction in preparing the lesson and in developing his or her own alternative activities based on the unique characteristics of the students and available resources.

Students are introduced to basic Christian doctrines that are relevant to the lives of fifth and sixth graders. A missions emphasis is carried out through application suggestions and through periodic projects and stories.

Special features in the Teaching Guide include suggestions for how to lead a child to faith in Christ as Savior and Lord. Many lessons have reproducible resource pages, such as Bible story or application skits. Worship ideas are also included in each lesson. Teacher training is convenient and practical with a four-page Teacher-to-Teacher Counsel in each quarter's manual and occasional Teacher Workshop pages. In addition, each lesson includes a mini-study to help the teacher to apply the lesson text to his or her own life.
